Underwater Robot Constructor
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
This is an in-development STEM (Science, Technology, Engingeering, and Math) game. The current build has a tutorial and two missions.
In each mission, you will start in the Build Lab where you will build an ROV out of PVC pipe and modules. You can then run it in the pool to accomplish the mission. You can load a prebuilt ROV or a starter template if you need help getting started.
The WebGL version is disabled for now. Please download the version for your operating system (Windows or Mac)
Controls in missions:
Controls are mapped similar to how a student ROV would be. There are two control schemes:
- The tutorial (Level 0) explains how to pilot your ROV with two-key switches (Q-A, W-S, I-K, and O-L to fire individual thrusters forward/backward)
- There's also a stick mode where WASD/left stick will move you forward/backward/turn (yaw) and arrows/right stick with move you up/down/pitch or roll.
- You can press Esc in mission and click the Controls button to change your control preference.
This isn't documented inside the game yet but there are multiple cameras:
- 2 key - ROV-eye view (typical competition view)
- 4 key - 3rd person following from behind
- 3 and 5 keys - additional views

Notes:
- Game loads tutorial and other data/pictures using the Internet. Your operating system may ask you to allow Internet access.
- Game saves your preferences. Your operating system may ask you to allow file access to where you saved the game.
- A lab where you can set up the floats on your ROV is on the roadmap. Until then, floats are applied automatically and may make your ROV hard to pilot. (Prebuilt ROV2 works well with these floats.)
